THE BAFTX GALA


Who attends the BAFTX Gala?

The BAFTX Gala is attended by supporters and friends of the British American Foundation of Texas. We are known for throwing a creative and fun gala so anyone who enjoys a good evening with a British twist while supporting education in Texas will really enjoy our event.

Why are you fundraising?

Proceeds from the BAFTX Gala will benefit the British American Foundation of Texas. This Houston-based 501(c)(3) non profit was set up in 2006 to raise funds and award scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to academically gifted students from very low income households in Texas. They are studying in the fields of STEM or international business. This Gala will allow BAFTX to award scholarships through 2020.

What is the attire for the evening?

Dress code is black tie. Long gowns or cocktail dresses would be appropriate for ladies.  Traditional Scottish dress is welcome!

Is there a cash bar?

There is an open bar until the end of dinner - then a cash bar (that accepts credit cards) will open until the end of the event.

And champagne?

Champagne will be available only through our champagne diamond raffle (see above).  

And wine?

Wine will be available at our open and cash bars.  If you wish to drink wine other than the red and white on offer, please ask your server to call over our Wine Liaison who will discuss wines available for purchase directly from The Post Oak Hotel.

Are tickets refundable?
Refunds are not issued for this event. If a cancellation is made, the cost of the ticket will be considered a charitable donation to the British American Foundation of Texas and a tax donation letter will be issued.

How does the silent auction work?
We will be using mobile bidding the night of the event for our silent auction. To participate in our silent auction, you must bring your phones or tablet fully charged to this event! You will be able to use your smartphone/tablet to keep up with the status of your bids and continue bidding until the auction closes. Don't have a smartphone or tablet? We will have bid concierge volunteers ready to help you participate in our exciting auction. You can be the winning bidder wherever you are in the world!

How do I participate in the online bidding auction?
Get started online through this auction page, and then bring your fully charged phone to participate on November 16th. To expedite your registration at the event, please register with the auction site prior to attending; otherwise the registration folks will have to help you with that at the door.

I purchased tickets for myself and my spouse. Do we both still need to register to participate?
You can register individually if you would like to bid individually or together under the same email address if you prefer to bid together.

Start Bidding
Browse the Silent Auction and start bidding on your favorite items! Place your bid on selected items, and set a maximum bid if desired, and Givesmart will continue to keep you in the running until you reach your maximum.

Keep Active
You will be notified via text if you have been outbid. Keep an eye on your favorite items!

Collect Your Winnings
Auction winners are required to make payment and asked to collect their winnings on the night of the event at guest check-out. At this point you can choose whether you would like to charge your balance to your credit card on file, or pay by check or cash. Please note that you will have the choice to either pay credit card fees yourself or allocated them to BAFTX.  For no fees, you may consider paying by cash or check.

All auction prizes are to be removed on the night of the Gala. If you are not able to do so, BAFTX will contact you to collect them. Delivery of items within Houston will incur a donation to BAFTX of $50. Bidders who wish prizes to be sent outside Houston are responsible for arranging shipping at their own cost and risk.

All bids are final and binding. There will be no exchanges, alterations or refunds on items. Gift certificates cannot be exchanged for cash. All items are "as is". Please note any restrictions stipulated by the prize donor. BAFTX is not responsible or liable for any discrepancies. Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of values for tax purposes.

For easier bidding you can also do the following:
Set a maximum bid. The auction software will automatically raise your bid by a predetermined increment until your maximum bid has been met or the silent auction ends.

Not planning on attending the event, but still want to participate in bidding?
You can still be the winning bidder wherever you are in the world! Simply register on this site. The only exceptions are the live auction items - you need to be present to bid on these.

Will I know if I am outbid on an item, or if I won an item?
You will be notified through a text message if you have been outbid on items. When the silent auction closes, you will also receive a text message if you won any items!
